ABOUT

Hailed by No Depression as “an exercise in what contemporary folk today sounds like at its peak”, Erisy Watt’s music reliably alludes to the sounds of the 60s and 70s but also finds a home in the vintage-tinged ether of her more contemporary counterparts. The Los Angeles-based songwriter released her second album "Eyes Like The Ocean" via American Standard Time in April 2022 and has her third LP forthcoming.

Erisy has toured extensively over the past decade throughout the US and abroad sharing the stage with notable acts like Hurray for the Riff Raff, River Whyless, Dylan LeBlanc, Josiah Johnson (The Head and the Heart), John Craigie, and more. Erisy grew up in Nashville, but it wasn’t until she left for college in California in 2011 that she started writing songs. Both of these formative settings are present in her creative instinct—Nashville’s knack for a timeless melody and California’s bewildering vastness and dusty free spirit—but upon these sonic bones lives a body of global adventure. Erisy’s other area of expertise lies in the biological sciences and has brought her over the past decade to work in remote locations in Thailand, Indonesia, and Nepal. Her experiences in these settings have and continue to inform the content of her craft. From the call to prayer at the mosques in Indonesia to the call of the sandhill cranes in central Florida, Erisy’s real art is in connection, in tracing the common threads that unite us. Her curiosity for the vast, the raw, the ugly and the beautiful, all heightened on the road, leads her time and time again back to the guitar to process, to explore, to get closer to the mystery underneath.

Erisy’s forthcoming album, produced by Luke Temple (Adrianne Lenker, Hand Habits) and mastered by Heba Kadry (Björk, Sufjan Stevens), explores these themes and more in a collection of ten songs that were recorded live over five days in June of 2023 in Long Beach, CA. With Kosta Galanopoulos on drums, Will Graefe on lead guitar, and Luke Temple steering the creative production, there’s a new depth and dimension achieved on this record compared to Erisy’s previous works. A playfulness, a groove, and the incomparable cohesion of a band playing live in a room all provide the backdrop for Erisy’s contemplative lyrics and distinctive melodies to shine.

IN THE PRESS

"Incorporates the most palatable traits of Laura Nyro, Nick Drake and Ryley Walker...a summery late 60’s style jazz-folk that fills a bucket of poignant notes." - Glide Magazine

“It’s a voice comparable to She and Him, Courtney Barnett and Norah Jones among others, yet equally defies these comparisons” - The Big Takeover

"Her whispery voice and tranquil guitar lulled us in, but the lyrics...lingered with us, bits of thoughtful poetry that stayed in the soul." - The Independent
